He is also the Chief Instructor at Cold Steel – training is in his blood. It will come as no surprise then that Cold Steel have a large selection of training tools, incluidng medieval weopanry, guns and knives.

Here is an overview of some of the training knives manufactured and supplied by Cold Steel.

The problem with training with such a knife, or any knife, is that there is the risk of serious injury and death – playing with knives is not a good idea! A misstep here, being slightly late there and you;re in a world of hurt.

This is where training knives come into their own. Being able to train with a safer weapon that greatly minimises these risks is absolutely necessary – whether it’s for military training or martial arts.

The original Cold Steel Leatherneck SF is a tough looking knife beloved by US military personnel. With it’s solid steel guard, deeply checkered Griv-Ex handle, distinctive black D2 steel blade it’s easy to see why it’d be a military fave.

The Leatherneck SF trainer is designed to be used to mimic the original Leatherneck SF with minimised risk of injury. It’s made of tough and flexible Santoprene, which is a kind hardened rubber, giving it a substantial feeling in the hand and allowing the trainee to become familiar with the feel and shape of the knife.

It’s isn’t an exact copy of the original – it’s slightly longer and considerably lighter but is close enough to be a realistic interpretation of how the knife handles.

Cold Steel Karambit Trainer

The Cold Steel Karambit Trainer is designed to replicate the Cold Steel Karambit in relative safely. The curved blade of the Karambit requires a different skill set to normal knife usage, so this handy training knife allows a trainee to become familiar with the shape and style of this curved knife in controlled conditions. The normally sharp point of the Krambit is made even safer on the training knife by being replaced with a solid sphere of Santoprene.
