Cold Steel Click-n-cut

When is a fixed blade knife NOT a fixed blade knife? When it’s a Cold Steel Click-n-Cut!

The difference with this handy knife is that it has interchangeable blades. Yes, you read that correctly – you can actually change the blades to suit different tasks.

This makes it perfect for an utility knife without the biggest problem that most utility knives suffer from – weakness.

Your bog standard utility knife tends to feel flimsy and unsubstantial. They generally feel like they’ll just about manage to do the job, but very little else.

Most important of all they don’t always feel safe to use.

On a practical level, most utility knives don’t have a choice of different blades available to swap out, which puts them at a disadvantage when compared to this handy piece of kit.

The Cold Steel Click-n-Cut thumbs it’s nose at this single blade nonsense by having three different blades included:

This gives so much more flexibility than your usual utility knife with just a single blade.

A Closer Look

The Cold Steel Click-n-Cut honestly doesn’t feel like a utility knife. Compared to some other knives I’ve tried that have interchangeable blades it feels a lot more substantial.

The blades do not feel flimsy at all.

They feel like they will do the toughest of jobs and then some, in fact I think you’d actually be able to sharpen them if you wanted to, such is the thickness compared to other similar knives.

Not that you’d need to as you can actually buy the blades separately!

The blades are made from 1.5mm thick 420J2 steel – it’s not the best knife steel you can get, but for a utility knife it’s more than adequate.

The handle is super tough ABS plastic which feels grippy in the hand.

Overall, the knife feels light, but in no way flimsy.

The blades lock into the knife handle via a similar mechanism to a lock back knife. Pressing the substantial spine releases the blade easily and safely.

Clicking a blade back in place also feels safe – the depth of the blade gives you enough finger room to keep away from the extremely sharp edge when pushing the blade into place.

There is a very satisfying click when the blade locks correctly and I couldn’t detect any sideways movement on the blade at all when in situ.

Cold Steel Click-n-Cut Accessories

The knife comes complete with three blades as previously mentioned.

Also included is one hell of a sheath.

Cold Steel Click-n-Cut sheath

It’s a Secure-Ex Sheath made of extremely tough ABS plastic. It holds the knife (with a blade attached) incredibly securely. The sheath takes a belt and braces approach by including a velcro strap to further secure the knife.

The sheath also has storage for the two different blades included, locking securely into their cosy plastic pockets.

As much as I tried, I could not shake any of the secured parts loose – I’d be incredibly confident that the knife and blades would stay put when clipped onto my belt using the chunky belt clip.

I also like the fact that they have even included a written warning on the sheath warning where the sheath should be gripped!

If I needed to use a utility knife I would absolutely, without hesitation, recommend this knife.

The choice of blades gives amazing flexibility and the sheath is just brilliant.

The whole thing feels so tough and usable I’m tempted to add one to my collection just to open my Amazon deliveries in style.

Do yourself a favour, drop that flimsy box cutter and get yourself a proper tool!
