Our improved Cold Steel Japanese Training Swords are closely modelled after traditional Japanese sword forms. Featuring an intricately detailed imitation cord-wrap grip moulded in high-impact polypropylene, they offer a comfortable, secure feel and realistic handling for martial arts training. Traditional bokken have long been used in Japanese sword practice, often made from Japanese White Oak, known as Kashi. These wooden training pieces can replicate the size, weight and feel of a steel sword, but may be costly and can be affected by rot, cracking, splitting or splintering. Cold Steel developed a synthetic alternative: a polypropylene training instrument designed to be durable, weather-resistant and affordable. The Wakizashi Bokken is made from the heaviest grade polypropylene available and closely duplicates a Katana or Wakizashi in length, size, weight and feel. While not quite as rigid as wood, it offers excellent durability, stiffness and cut resistance.
