The Francisca, so named for its Frankish origins, was used at close quarters and for short-range skirmishes as a throwing axe. Its graceful lines are legendary; the upswept point and downturned edge were both effective against chain mail. The Francisca axe, crafted by Paul Chen at the Hanwei factory, features a steel head with an antiqued finish and a swelled-end hardwood shaft for secure head retention. The shaft is also backswept, as were the originals, which aids retention when used as a throwing axe.
