Willumsen Despot

Mikkel Willumsen is famed for his approach to knife making. A combination of urban tactical design and high quality materials combine to make knives that are both great looking and highly practical.

The Willumsen Copenhagen Despot is no exception. Available in two sizes and two colours, this tough looking blade is designed for challenging cutting tasks.

Let’s take a closer look at this tough drop point beauty.

Firstly, there are two different sizes. The standard Despot features a 4″ blade made from decent quality AUS-8 steel. The larger model has the same blade material but the blade is a full inch larger.

The blade has jimping on the top edge for extra control, with a finger guard at the blade edge to prevent any accidental slippage.

Straight out of the box the edge is super sharp – it’d definitely pass the shave test! The AUS-8 Japanese steel scores highly in terms of corrosion resistance and edge retention and makes a good quality steel for a tool such as this whose primary purpose is effective cutting.

The handle is a finely milled G-10 which, unlike some knives which use this hard wearing material, feels really smooth. The scales almost have an organic wood grain look. This knife, in either size, is very comfortable – you’d be able to use this for extended periods without your hands bearing the brunt of a rough handle.

Willumsen Despot

The Willumsen Copenhagen Despot comes with a super tough Kydex sheath with a TEK-LOK belt clip. The sheath fits very snugly and the clip is reversible for left and right handed usage.

Once again, even the sheath looks really tacticool and the belt clip locks in place via the TEK-LOK mechanism – there’s very little chance of losing this tasty looking cutter once it’s securely in the sheath and on your belt.

The design accents on the Willumsen Copenhagen Despot, like other Willumsen knives, are top notch and really add to the overall look and feel. The smooth, milled G-10 scales are held in place with attractive and good quality steel screws, securing the full tang.

This knife looks sleek – the blade has a decent wide belly for great cutting and slicing but doesn’t look overly chunky for a Willumsen – the design of the knife makes the whole thing flow nicely from the sharp tip of the blade to the solid looking lanyard hole at the end of the handle.

The Willumsen Copenhagen Despot is available in Stone Black and Night Olive in both size variants. You also receive a Willumsen Copenhagen vest patch to complete the tacticool look.

If you’re in the market for a good quality fixed blade knife, the Willumsen Copenhagen Despot should absolutely be on your list to consider. The larger of the blades would be my preference but either of the sizes are supremely comfortable and provide a lot of control for heavy cutting tasks or close up work.

The Willumsen Copenhagen is a beautiful looking knife made from high quality materials that seem wholly out of proportion to it’s amazingly low price. A definite contender for anyone on the hunt for a excellent fixed blade knife.
