Expendables 2 Kunai 3 Piece Thrower Set

United Cutlery have been the industry leader in officially licensed movie replicas for over 20 years but the United Cutlery Officially Licensed ‘The Expendables II’ Kunai Throwers are not just for show. It’s actually a well balanced and very high quality set that is incredibly accurate.

First off, let’s take a good look at what you actually get when you buy the United Cutlery Officially Licensed ‘The Expendables II’ Kunai Throwers. In the box there is a certificate of authenticity featuring Jason Stathams character ‘Lee Christmas’ in full knife throwing pose. There’s also a mini brochure of other United Cutlery products but the main event is the throwers themselves.

You get a set of three throwers in a a neat and tough looking black nylon sheath. The sheath has three pockets to hold the throwers snugly in place and features a sizeable belt loop, a Velcro strap to warp around the knife handles and an adjustable leg strap.

Each of the knives is made from decent quality AUS-6 anodised stainless steel with double edges. As you’d expect with throwing knives, they’re dagger shaped with a sharp point.

Out of the box, the double edged knives are sharp – not super sharp – but as they’re for throwing this is less important than it would be with other knives.

If you so wished, you could definitely put a finer edge on them to make them more effective at cutting, but I’m not sure this would be an entirely worthwhile exercise – they aren’t designed for cutting and slicing after all.

The throwers are 12″ long in total, with a large finger hole terminating on the cord wrapped handle. The blades themselves measure in at 6 1/2″.

In the hand, the knives feel comfortable – the cord wrapped handle is entirely appropriate for this type of knife. It’s not a tool that you would be using for long periods of time, so balance and lightness are much more important here.

Each knife weighs only 209g and is perfectly balanced. The way the tang narrows towards the finger hold means it’s not really designed to be held for cutting tasks and that is fine – these knives are for target throwing – and the blade/handle configuration is ideal for the task.

I have to admit that I’ve not used this knives for the task that they were designed for, so I won’t comment on what they are like to throw. However, given their size, shape, balance and weight I suspect they’d be pretty good to chuck at a target.

Despite these being movie replicas they’re actually very high quality throwers with the kind of features that belie their low price.
